Ingredients

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 100g butter
  • 150g sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 150g flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 300ml cream
  • fresh chili peppers (for garnish)
  • lime zest (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, melt 200g of dark chocolate over a double boiler.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together 100g of butter and 150g of sugar until creamy.
  4. Beat in 3 eggs one at a time into the butter-sugar mixture.
  5. Stir in the melted chocolate and mix until well combined.
  6. Add 150g of flour and a pinch of salt, mixing gently to incorporate.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let it cool.
  8. For the mousse, whip 300ml of cream until soft peaks form.
  9. In a separate bowl, melt 200g of chocolate and let it cool slightly.
  10. Fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream gently.
  11. Chill the mousse for about 30 minutes until slightly thickened.
  12. Spread the mousse over the cooled cake base and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to set.
  13. Before serving, garnish with sliced chili peppers and lime zest.
