Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 75g sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 10g active dry yeast
  • 250ml warm milk
  • 100g melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 100g softened butter (for spreading)
  • 50g brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 500g of all-purpose flour, 75g of sugar, 2 teaspoons of ground cardamom, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve 10g of active dry yeast in 250ml of warm milk and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients along with 100g of melted butter and 1 large egg, mixing until combined.
  4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic, then cover, and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  5. Once risen, roll the dough out into a large rectangle, approximately 1cm thick.
  6. Spread 100g of softened butter across the dough and sprinkle with 50g of brown sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces, approximately 12 pieces.
  8. Create swirls by twisting each piece and placing them on a lined baking tray.
  9. Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving and enjoy!
